The facilitators asked the participants to divide themselves into six groups through counting off from 1-6. Each group was asked to list down in a piece of paper their basic knowledge about drugs. After 5-10 minutes, a representative from each group reported their answers, and at the same time one of the service learners wrote the answers on the black board.
After all the groups have reported, the facilitators discussed the answers written on the board. Misconceptions raised by the students were corrected while other answers were affirmed. The facilitators then preceded with the actual lecture on drugs and its effects. A PowerPoint presentation was used as an instructional material. Drugs that were discussed are: Nicotine, Opiates, Alcohol, Cocaine, LSD, Amphetamines, Methylphenidate (Ritalin), and Marijuana. After the discussion, the students raised their questions and shared their thoughts and reactions.
For the last part of the activity, the students were again asked to write on the same paper their new learning and inquiries about drugs.
The facilitators conducted a focus group discussion (FGD) immediately after the activity, which was held in an available MMJ room. Students who participated in the FGD were chosen randomly by the MC-101 teacher and the facilitators.
