3) What are your thoughts and feelings after the service-learning meeting?
“The activity was fulfilling—fulfilling in a sense that I was able to impart my knowledge about drugs to other students. I was happy that the students actively participated in our discussion and that they’ve gain information from us. I felt that I became an older sister to those students even just for a matter of 1hour.” – Milcah Avelino
“I found it surprising that the students were still interested on the topic of drugs even if it is a common subject often discussed in several magazines and in television programs. Their curiosity made the discussion more interesting. I was happy that we were able to answer their questions and it also feels good to be the one sharing the knowledge.” – Kristine Canullas
“Even though I am the one who discussed to the students about drugs, I also learned new things as I interact with them. Despite their young age, they are already informed about the harmful effects of drugs to people and that they are already exposed with people who use different kinds of drugs. After the service learning, it was a great feeling for me to contribute to the knowledge of the students and that to be of help to them.” – Jamaica Cardeño
“After the service learning, I feel happy about how the students responded to our questions and how they cooperated. The focus group discussion was also an additional information for me because it made me understand where the students are coming from. The FGD also made me realize the importance of choosing your friends wisely because they will greatly affect your life.” – Mer Marco
“For one, I felt fulfillment after the service learning session with the class. Although we only spent a few hours with them, the whole experience was really worth it. We were able to impart our knowledge, and the students were imparting theirs as well. I did not only enjoy, I learned something from them.” – Blanche Sol Cruz
4.) What did you do about these thoughts and feelings?
“The whole service learning activity can be considered as a learning and meaningful experience for each one of us. The negative feelings that I had before the actual activity turned to a fulfillment. The experience now serves as a motivation to be proactive when it comes to engaging in interventions that promotes awareness among the community.” – Milcah Avelino
“It motivated me to make use of the learning that I got from class to help others understand this issue of drug addiction. It challenges me to continue sharing what I know even at least to my friends. In that way, the service learning goes on.” – Kristine Canullas
“The service learning activity provides each and one of us the facility to learn and to grow as responsible students. It allows us, especially me to be a role model of wellness not only to the students but also to other people. In that, the service learning enables me to continue sharing the effects of drugs to the people around me.” – Jamaica Cardeño
“I shared my thoughts and feelings to my close friends. I also asked questions to those who are knowledgeable about drugs for clarification purposes. To further my knowledge I surf the internet to look for some articles and studies.” – Mer Marco
“In summary, the service learning was a good venue for learning. I am happy and relieved that all the worries I initially felt before and during the implementation drifted away. In the same way, I felt fulfilled because we were somehow able to contribute and touch other people’s lives, and because of this experience, I became determined to engage in activities that will further contribute to the knowledge of other people.” – Blanche Sol Cruz
